Guest Post: TV Christmas Movies ~ Why We Love Them by B.J. Frazier

Posted on November 20, 2025

This time of year brings out the crazy.  There’s a lot of rushing… to finish work, to shop, to cook, to drive long distances to share a meal with family you don’t care to see, to decorate, to bake, to attend boring work parties, to… it’s no wonder people get stressed.

Many people, including myself, DE-stress by binge-watching made-for-TV Christmas movies.  They are the highlight of my season, even though they’re ridiculously predictable, implausibly unrealistic, and painfully G-rated.  Their appeal lies in the hope of romance.  In a season where everything is hurried and chaotic, xmas movies are easy and romantic.

Most begin with a woman who doesn’t know she’s in a bad relationship.  She thinks he’s going to propose, but he actually dumps her.  No one ever wonders what she ever saw in the guy to begin with, because it’s a trope used to demonstrate how wonderful the new guy is by comparison.

There must be some type of conflict before they can live happily ever after.  Perhaps she’s a high-powered business executive forced to travel to a small Christmas town–right before Christmas–to turn the failing Christmas tree farm into her company’s next resort, and the new guy is fighting to make the family business profitable.

Now you have a wonderful setting for Christmas baking competitions, snowball fights, the ever-present Christmas tree lighting ceremony in the center of town, picking out a tree, decorating, making hot chocolate, buying gifts, making gingerbread houses, a blizzard, etc.  Pick at least three to fully establish the undeniable love between the two adversaries, which will be life-changing even though they just met a few weeks ago.

Don’t forget to *not* have them kiss–and definitely NOT engage in any type of sexual activity before he asks her to give up the city life, earning six figures, to live on the Christmas tree farm where she will be bored for the rest of her life… and she eagerly accepts.  Then they can share their first kiss as the ending credits roll.

As those credits roll, you feel warm and fuzzy.  These movies are like comfort food for the soul.  It makes us happy, content, hopeful… and keeps us tuning in year after year.

It’s a guilty pleasure I’ve indulged in for decades.  After writing many erotica books (I have over 80 titles), it was natural for me to write an erotic Christmas novel.  Having immersed myself in the made-for-TV Christmas movie genre for so long, it was easy to incorporate their hard-and-fast tropes while simultaneously making fun of them.  The other big difference between my books and the movies:  my stories don’t fade to black on the good parts.

My first Christmas novel, “A Domme for Christmas” [ADFC], pays homage to these wonderful hallmarks while spoofing them at the same time.  ADFC is a movie within a book.  Memphis Clark is a writer and director who is filming a TV Christmas movie, and his biggest pet peeve is the prop cups don’t contain any liquid.  Because, come on, you’ve noticed it.  There’s never any liquid in those coffee containers!  And there’s never anything in those purses, suitcases or large boxes, either.

His assistant, Thane, is a pain slut who loves to tell Memphis the details of his dungeon visits.  Add in the new producer– who is the best femdom of all (Mrs. Claus)–cute kids and a bit of magic, and ADFC becomes the TV Christmas movie you wish they made!

Last year’s novel was “Mistletoe Bound”, which is an erotically twisted Christmas tale.  Nolan Drexel is unhappy with his life, his finances and his lack of sex.  He “falls” into another timeline, where he becomes a pimp who enjoys unlimited sex with unlimited partners… but misses intimacy.  His best friend is a paraplegic, and the two are inventing an electronic, portable wheelchair ramp.  If Nolan can figure out how to return to his own timeline, it will be a “wonderful life” of a happily ever after.

“An Ornamental Christmas” is my 2025 Christmas offering.  This year I mix A-ha’s “Take on Me” video with snow globe movies involving alternate universes to produce a heartwarming, chuckle-infused, gentle femdom holiday novel.  The release date of November 28 is Black Friday, which is the day of the first scene in the book.

Like the movies, my books contain the same tropes.  You may predict the endings.  You will hopefully relate to the characters.  And you should be pleased that the scenes don’t fade to black.  Now, put the decorations aside, wipe the flour from your clothes, and turn off your phone so you can snuggle up with one of my Christmas novels–which will make you turn down the fire.

What is it about these stories that draw us in?  I return to the idea of hope.  Even though they’re corny and predictable, they remind us about holiday magic.  When we were little, holiday magic was possible, and even present.  Everything seemed that much better.  People smiled.  The house smelled like the holidays.  What we perceive as chaos as adults was an adventure for children:  Relatives, friends, presents, the long wait where, this year, you would stay awake to meet Santa… everything was new and exciting.

That feeling of pure joy percolates in me when I watch those movies.  And I smile at my childhood memories, and then seeing the world again through my children’s eyes.  It’s peaceful.  It makes me feel good.  And I suspect it’s a little piece of that magic that sparks in all of us to keep us coming back for more.

And if you want similar tropes with more kink and a bit of spoof, then check out my Christmas novels.  Don’t forget to leave a review on Goodreads, because I am a Feedback Whore.

So let’s not call it a guilty pleasure anymore, and let’s not keep it a secret.  Admit that you enjoy made-for-TV Christmas movies.  There are more of us than you know.  With the power in numbers, maybe we can bring that magic and hope to everyone.

Merry Kinkmas to one and all!
