Chantilly Lace is a m/m erotic romance short story by Em Woods, and published by Totally Bound. It tells the story of Shea Laporte, a twenty-four year-old twink. He likes to be a kept man, using his youthful good looks to snare rich men and get them to fund his lifestyle for a little while, before he gets bored of them and moves on. His lovers all know what they’re going to get, so Shea lives his life by coffee, late nights and lazy mornings. He does, however, have a secret. One that he very successfully keeps to himself, until he meets the hunky guy that lives in his apartment building – Murdock ‘Murk’ Rouse.

Murk’s a tough guy and seems determined to protect Shea, though Shea’s equally determined he can look after himself. But when circumstances throw them together, Shea’s forced to see that leaning on someone, allowing them to help, isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Especially when that person appears to be the one that can give Shea everything he needs, in every part of his life.

I don’t think I’ve read anything by Em Woods before, but based on this short story, I’ll definitely look out for her books in future. Chantilly Lace is an unusual, quirky story with intriguing characters. It was great to read a story with such an out-and-out twink and a man that was his total opposite – brooding, dark, tough. I really liked the storyline and the characters, and the sex was smokin’ hot. I enjoyed the twists and turns and found the story to come to a satisfactory end. My only criticism was that I wanted more of these characters – a longer story or a sequel would be a welcome addition. Recommended to fans of gay erotic romance in the short form.
