eBook Review: Sinful by Charlotte Featherstone

Posted on July 17, 2013

SinfulI don’t think I’ve read any books by Charlotte Featherstone before, but based on this one, I’ll definitely seek them out in the future. Sinful is an erotic historical novel which tells the story of Matthew, the Earl of Wallingford. His life consists of drinking, and a string of women, none of whom he will commit to. It’s just one meaningless affair after the other. His physical needs are met, but inside, he’s numb.

This all changes when an unfortunate accident renders him in a London East End hospital. His eyes are bandaged, his body is bruised, and he’s cared for by a young woman called Jane. Matthew becomes enamoured with a woman he can’t even see, a woman that’s so far below his station that he should not even be thinking that way. And yet…

Jane’s feelings for Matthew grow daily, even when she realises he’s not just any man, but the Earl of Wallingford. A very important aristocratic fellow, a man she has no right to touch.

Things quickly grow more complicated between Matthew and Jane, especially when their secrets are thrust out into the open and they must be civil with one another for the sake of their closest friends.

I’m not going to say any more as I don’t want to give spoilers, but let’s just say this is no straightforward book. It surprised me more than once, and I very much enjoyed the read. I empathised with the characters, was intrigued by the storyline and absorbed by the writing. Matthew is a complicated man, a very tortured hero, and one that fans of historical erotic romance novels will adore. Recommended.
