I deliberately left it a day or so after finishing this book to write my review, because I was trying to figure out why I didn’t enjoy it as much as the other titles in The Original Sinners series. I finally came to my conclusion, so here’s my review. If you haven’t read any of the other books, which I know is unlikely, then I wouldn’t advise continuing to read this review, as there are bound to be some spoilers – not from this book, but from previous books. It’s pretty much unavoidable.

The Saint is part of The Original Sinners series by Tiffany Reisz, and also The White Years segment of her books. The majority of the action is set several years in the past, in Nora’s, then known as Eleanor or Ellie, teenage years. We’re introduced to Soren for the very first time, and see through Nora’s eyes exactly what happens between them from their meeting until their relationship gets intimate. We find out in greater detail what Nora goes through, the tests she’s given, the trouble she has with her parents, and so on, until she reaches twenty and Soren finally takes her virginity, and introduces her to the BDSM lifestyle and everything that goes with it.

This is all told as a story narrated by Nora to someone new in her life – so although the majority of the tale is set back in her teenage years, there are some snippets as to what’s happening in Nora’s here and now. And this, I believe, is why I didn’t enjoy The Saint as much as I’ve enjoyed Reisz’s previous books. Yes, of course, the writing is as spectacular as ever, gripping, sexy and erotic, but when I got to the end, I didn’t feel as though I’d learned much more about the characters. The book filled in some gaps, expanded on bits and pieces we previously knew only a little about, but essentially, the overall story wasn’t moved on hugely, with the exception of the segments of Nora’s present.

Don’t get me wrong, I still found this to be a page-turning read, but when I got to the end, I wasn’t left as shocked or satisfied as the previous books. But I’m looking forward to the next one nevertheless. A must-read for Reisz fans.
